IT Student Consultant

During my junior year I was hired by IT Solutions as an IT student consultant. IT Solutions is a place where we fix several issues related to software and hardware components. I perform customer services for IT dependent issues for students as well as faculty members. My major strength that I perform in this field is handling customers with the quality that reflects our IT Department. For example, there are times where we encounter angry customers, during these times we play a role in keeping the customer calm and helping them resolve the issue. The other role During the time I wasI was in this position and played a role as team; there was an issue setting up multi-factor authentication for students and faculty members to protect their school account. I was able to work with my team members in setting up the system so that it will be easier for students and faculty members. We were able to successfully set up the system, however there were times when we faced some issues with system failures. These issues were resolved by setting up new systems that allows students and employees to sign in and protect their account from virus and spam. Resolving these issues has helped me understand how important each person’s role is in a team setting. This means that each of us in the team have our own strengths and qualitiesy, and in the areas in which we are strongestthing, we are good at we perform to the highest capacity so that customers attain their needs.  In this job I observed teamwork and how there are always new things to learn when working in the field. There were also times where my team members assisted me with my weakness that I am improving which is overstressing. The reason is that sometimes it gets very busy and overwhelming where we get number of calls back-to-back as well as walk-in. During those times I get really overstressed and other team members assist with tasks. This means that we divide each task, if one person is handling the walk-in the other person helps handling calls. The whole point of dividing tasks helps relieve the overstress as well each of get to focus on assigned task so we can provide the quality service to our customers. The leadership style that is effective in our department is teamwork and training new employees. In our department when new employees come in each of us has responsibility to train each new employees with the expectation that is required and the tasks that they are assigned. The other leadership style that plays a key role in our department is the In addition to that, there is a habit of asking questions as everyone one’s question and ideas matter. This opportunity has helped me to understand the networking system that my university has. In addition to that I was able to perform troubleshooting skills and help several students to solve their issue. This has given me a good leadership role as I make decisions and I take responsibility for every action that I take. A performance evaluation that I am looking forward from this competency is being promoted to a higher senior consultant as I develop more experience in this field. Thus, using this leadership experience I want to further develop my leadership style in my future career. My personal theory of leadership style that was effective both in my job career and undergraduate study is the role of taking responsibility for one’s action as well as being open minded to learn and understand everyone’s ideas. I also plan to utilize my troubleshooting skill which will help me in my future career.
