Why Honors?

The honors program has played a very important role in my time at MNSU. I was able to develop my leadership, and research through the time I was enrolled in this program. During the time of my junior year, I had an advising session with one of my honors professors and I was told that I can be able to expand my research experience. Hence, I applied for an undergrad research grant so that I get funded for my research. In fact, with my lab partner, we were able to receive a grant to conduct our research for the undergrad symposium. This has given me a great opportunity to complete and present my hard work in a symposium full of people. In addition to that, as being an honor student, I was able to compete with several students all around the state to join a summer lab science program at Mayo Clinic in Rochester. In fact, I was elected as one of the students to join the Clinical Mass Spectrometry Lab in the Department of Lab Medicine and Pathology. I was given a position of Clinical Lab technologist. Being at this position I had the opportunity to work in a very diverse community and get experience. At the same time I was also able to develop my leadership skills, as in everyday completing my assigned task and submitting report to my supervisor at the end of the day. In addition to that I gave training session to other students in how my bench task operates.

So far, the honors program has helped me to be competent not only at the MNSU level but also beyond that. I would like the honors program to help me continue developing several skills that will help me once I join the work world. I would like to involve in several events that the honors program have and be able to learn from others ,like what experiences they had, what challenges were they able to overcome. In fact I have learned from my summer work experience that time management is the skill for life. Thus, I would like the honors program to help me advance in developing work ethics, multi-tasking and management skills as they play a vital role in the future both in my personal life and professional.

In future I plan to develop language skills to strengthen my global citizenship. I also plan to become a Physician Assistant in the future. In order to do that I have a lot of stages that I need to pass before joining the program. I plan to use my experience as an honor student to achieve my dreams. I will use the skills of leadership, innovation, creativity to learn and get more experience. I believe that there is no limit to education and education is the power to success. I also believe that I have a lot to learn and experience, so that I can be able to help my community as a whole and inspire others as they can be able to achieve their dreams as well.
